Why There’s A Need For Content Curation On The Web Today

Content Curation GuideI admit, sometimes I find it hard to come up with a topic that I think is worth writing.  I mean, practically every topic, every angle on anything is being written by so many great  bloggers.

While those posts are really educating and inspiring, it’s somehow discouraging for me, thinking that “how am I going to write another intelligent post that’s not repeating what others are writing?”

Sometimes I got so unmotivated that I just take a break from creating another blog post.

Recently I came across an interesting infographic from CurationSoft which couldn’t explain my situation better.

The internet is full.

“We don’t have an information shortage, we have an attention shortage.” – Seth Godin

It seems that it’s more valuable to find, organize and share excellent content in a way to add value to people.  And that’s call content curation.

“A curator is an information chemist. He or she mixes atoms together in a to build an info-molecule.  Then adds value to that molecule.” – Robert Scoble

Here are some highlights of the infographic:

WordPress Sites: 57,931,222 WordPress sites written in over 120 languages

Yourtube: 48 hours worth of playtime in videos uploaded per minute with 3 Billion views per day

Google: 20% of searches each never been performed before

Flickr: More than 5 Billions of photos uploaded

Facebook: 3.5 Billions pieces of content shared every week

Wikipedia: 17 Millions of articles

Blog Posts: 1.4 Millions of new blog posts are created everyday

As you can see, the web is flooded with information.  People are searching.  But chances are they may not find what they really want, something that’s useful, valuable, relevant, and outstanding.

So it’s becoming more important for people to use trusted and specialty sites to find  curated content.

Check out this neat infographic.

13 Best Resources Of The Web To Help You Start A Successful Blog From Scratch

how to start a blog from scratchWhen I first started marketing online, I wasted a lot of time learning different pieces of online marketing scattered over the internet.  I couldn’t find a complete step-by-step guide or a one-stop resource, etc. to learn everything in one place.

Not to mention that as a newbie, I couldn’t even tell the difference between good and bad.  Of course, later with experience, I learned that most of the courses, tools I bought were just crap.  I wasted a lot of money and time during that “learning” process.

Although I’m grateful of the experience and the honest and helpful people I met on the internet along the way, I want to help aspiring and new bloggers save money and shorten the learning curve.  And I want to share the strategies and resources that work with you.

How To Get Tons Of Free Targeted Traffic Without Waiting For Months

the best traffic generation strategyI have to admit, getting traffic to my sites had been one of the major challenges I faced trying to build an online business.  If you are reading this you can probably relate to it.

I had built more than a dozen niche sites and none of them are getting traffic (well, may be the best one gets 10 visitors a day).  But I refused to give up because I know in my heart that owning a business online is what I really want.  Plus the time and money I’d already spent (and wasted) on learning made it even more impossible for me to quit.

I thought I had learned enough about choosing a market (niche), analyzing, doing keyword research, building and setting up a website, writing content, and all that.

I had also learned many ways to get traffic, but I just didn’t know what went wrong.

The Change

One day I was reading an article about internet marketing, and that had changed my way of thinking completely – I finally realized that all along I was an opportunist searching for an easy way to make money online.

That opportunistic thinking kept me looking forever for the next shiny thing.  I couldn’t settle down and focus on one solid plan long enough to see results.

I changed from one traffic strategy to another based on the marketers’ claims.

I would jump from one niche to another just because it’s a “hot” market.

I created one site and quickly worked on another site because the Adsense cost is $10 per click.

After reading that article, my whole mindset had changed.  I decided that I would stop everything else and learn from someone who was dedicated to teaching the real, fundamental principles and steps in getting traffic.

SEO

So my wish was answered and I found Lisa Parmley, a top SEO expert, and started learning from her about driving organic search engine traffic.  That course, Inline SEO, is a solid course and is really worth it.

Once you set everything up right and do the hard work at the beginning, you will get traffic to your site even you don’t work on it regularly.  But if you can bear with it, the traffic may take 3 to 6 months to get to your site.

I still use SEO as one of my traffic generation strategies because it’s free (not counting your opportunity costs, of course) and long-term.  But I think it’s wise to combine SEO with something else.  Something that doesn’t take months to get results.  And something that doesn’t require you to spend hours to build backlinks, etc.

6 Tips To Surviving The Tough Times In Your Online Journey

how to succeed online

Starting an online business can be a lonely and frustrating journey.  You don’t know where to start, which strategies to follow, feel overwhelmed, couldn’t stay focused, feel embarrassed and way behind the successful marketers.  At times you just feel like banging your head against the wall.

If you’re still reading, you have probably decided that building an online business or starting a blog is what you want.   But it takes a lot of faith to keep going when things are going rough.

I’d like to dedicate this post to those who are going through a tough time right now.  I hope I can offer a little support in your journey, because I’ve been through these periods myself.  I think it’s useful to share what I’ve learned during my journey.

6 tips to going through the challenging times in your online business:

1. Relax - I think this is the first thing that you need to do right now.  I used to push myself too much.  I would set publishing schedules, linkbuilding schedules, etc. to make sure that I achieved something everyday.  While there’s nothing wrong with this but I was giving myself too much pressure that I didn’t enjoy what I was doing.

Not enjoying what you do can lead to procrastination and even failure.  So you really need to relax and give yourself space to take breaks every now and then. Take some time to do things that make you relax.  Like spending some time each day in silence, just sitting there doing and thinking of nothing for 10 minutes, taking some deep breaths for a couple minutes – anything that nourishes your mind and soul.

2. Do not worry - Learning to let go of your worries is key to achieving what you want in life, including your business.  It’s terrible to be constantly worrying: that you may fail, or not making any progress, or spending too much money buying courses and still not making enough.

I know it’s easier said than done because worrying stems from fear.  And as human we all have fears.  But realize this: worrying won’t help you achieve anything in any way.  To stop worrying, you have to first acknowledge your worries.  Don’t resist every time you find yourself worrying.  Then focus on your goal, think about what can help to improve the situation, take action and lastly let go of the outcome.

3. Acknowledge your efforts – Sometimes it’s not only about winning the game, but it’s the effort that counts.  Give credit to yourself, realize that you have done your best, although you haven’t seen significant results, yet.

By acknowledging yourself you’re loving yourself.  Why is that important for your success?  Here’s quote:

“Love yourself first and everything falls into line.”
- Lucille Ball  (American radio and motion-picture actress and comedy star, 1911-1989)

4. Acknowledge your fears  - This is a big one but once you learn how to acknowledge your fears, there effect on you becomes less intense and eventually fades away.

Like when you’re facing your worries, don’t resist your fears.  Accept them.  Stop struggling.  Don’t try to “conquer” your fears either because it will create resistance.

All you have to do is be aware of your fears, them face them, acknowledge them, accept them, and finally let go of them.

Once you learn how to do that, you start to calm down and those fears don’t bother you that much anymore.  You’d find yourself more motivated, productive, and action-oriented.

5. Know your strength and life goal – Building an online business is not about making money.  I used to think it was, myself.  But if you think that way, you’re not aligning what you do with your life purpose.  That will make you struggle or even fail in what you do.

Let me explain what that means.  If you agree, we are all unique in our own ways.  Therefore we each have our own strengths and gifts.  This is not accidental because our specific strengths are designed to achieve our life goals.  Making money is not your life goal, because it’s only a means to achieving it.

So it’s extremely important to find out your strengths and life goals.  Working at your strengths makes you powerful, and helps you find your competitive edge in your business.  If you use your strengths to accomplish you end goal, you’re more likely to succeed.  Because you’re working in line with your inborn talent and ultimate goal in life.

You can read this post about knowing your strength.

6. Practice gratitude - Expressing gratitude is a powerful way to boost your energy level and potential.  Feel grateful of who you are, your strengths, talents, achievements, and even the challenges you’re facing.  Appreciate the people who’ve helped during your online journey.  Be thankful for your existing and future customers, visitors or readers.

When you make it a habit to practice gratitude everyday, you’ll notice that there are more things and people to be grateful of.  This will shift your frame of mind completely and make a difference in your current situation and your life.

You can keep a journal and write down a list of what you feel grateful of.  Or you can just go through them in your mind.  Spend 10 to 15 minutes a day to do this every day.

Those are the 6 tips I learn during the course of my online journey.  It’s extremely effective for me and I hope it is for you, too.  Try them out, or use it one at a time, I’m sure it will make a difference in your life!
